There is nowhere quite like Bangkok. Once a small trading post in the 15th Century, Bangkok has now grown into one of the most famous city’s in the world and with a population of over 8 million people, its one of the biggest.
There is so much to do, so much to see and the city seems to have its own heartbeat, a pulse and I feel a freedom here that I’ve never felt anywhere else.
I have lived here for roughly five of the past seven months and I’ve loved every minute of it, the sweating, the noise, the smells, the people, the food, the narrow soi’s that bristle with life and…I could go on, you get the picture.
But with so much to do it’s hard to know where to start so I thought I would give you my top 5 things you must do if you ever come to Bangkok. I am writing this because I want to impart my wisdom but also because the title will hopefully get more viewers to this site and therefore boost my profile making me the most famous blogger in the world, (I do hope you are getting this humour!).
So here are my top 5 things to do in Bangkok.
- Get Plenty of Sleep.
Sleeping is a pretty important thing to do and it’s the same here in Bangkok. Not getting enough sleep can make you tired. It can also make you feel run down which leads to a higher chance of picking up a virus like a sore throat. Extreme sleep deprivation can lead to hallucinations and sever mental problems so just don’t chance it – get those eight hours!
2. Eat Food.
Eating food is also quit important and like sleeping it’s the same here, in this magnificent city called Bangkok! Not eating can lead to dramatic consequences such as light headedness, tiredness and even death. You don’t have to eat all the time but I recommend that about three times a day you find a place to sit down that serves food and eat some of it. You wont have too much trouble finding some sustenance as Thailand is famous for its delicious food and has many restaurants such as McDonald’s and KFC.
3. Visit Places Of Interest
Bangkok, like rather a lot of other cities has lots of places of interest such as the post office, a 7-11, multiple hair salons and a factory that makes wooden hinges! It’s also a country with a rich history so be sure to check some of them out – the public toilet in Sala Daeng is over six years old and has lost none of its original charm. Bangkok also has a cinema where you can watch films. I know I’ve mentioned a lot of places but come on, you’re in Bangkok, you only live once so while you’re here GO FOR IT!
4. Have A Massage
After a long day walking around the unique sights of Bangkok you are going to be tired with muscles that ache like a ballbag in a spicy salsa dip. But hey, you are in Bangkok – this is the best place in the world to have a massage! So kindly ask one of the many tuk tuk drivers to take you to a sports shop so you can buy a foam roller which allows you to give yourself a massage.
5. Don’t Forget To Catch Your Plane Home
Obviously this only applies to those of you that arrived by plane. If you arrived by another means then please do not go to the airport. For those of you that did fly in please remember what day you have to leave. It will be so embarrassing if you turn up at the airport on the wrong day. Bangkok has two airports, both of which have names that are really hard to spell so please, please make sure you go to the correct one. Once there, please don’t forget to book in and then actually get on the plane, it makes getting back to your home country much easier.
6. Watch Your Cholesterol
This goes without saying.
So I hoped these tips have helped you and you are now ready to come to Bangkok. It truly is a wonderful city and the memories will stay with you for a lifetime, which, let’s be honest, is as long as any memory lasts…I mean, once you’re dead, you can’t remember anything anymore. Safe trip!
